Last night I had the book launch for my debut YA romantic comedy book entitled Sam Cruz’s Infallible Guide to Getting Girls. It was an incredible and heady feeling. About 60 people came out to help me celebrate. I also read a couple of passages (video to be posted soon on my Sam Cruz book page). It was funny because when I think about a book, I think about an internal experience. Yet, I was going to read it aloud. The question of which passages can be read aloud becomes an interesting one when you’ve written a sexy, romantic comedy which you then have to read in front of say, your child or mom. Luckily, I had included at least a few pages that were family friendly.
This baby is now on it’s way. While it’s exciting, it’s kind of scary too. Because now it’s real. I can’t hover over Sam and Ally protectively. They’re out in the world and I can only hope I did right by them. 🙂
I don’t know what’s going to happen to it from here on in. Obviously, sales are important. But the coolest thing about this entire process so far, has been seeing readers from all over the world engage with my story and through it, connect with me. This book has been loved, it’s been hated, (happily mostly loved), it’s been debated and I’m enjoying it all. So, I hope my readers will continue to engage with both it and me.
For a writer, that’s the biggest rush there is.
As much as I’m trying to just enjoy the moment, in a way, last night was also me saying good-bye to this story. I’ll still be doing publicity and dealing with sales but my brain is now totally consumed with the characters in my new book, My Ex From Hell – Book One in the Blooming Goddess Trilogy.
Sam and Ally, I bid you a fond au revoir but definitely not adieu.
