Welcome to Book Blog Love November! All this month, I’m featuring book blogs that I love and the fabulous female(s) behind them. (Curl Up with a Good Book Sunday and my regular posts resume in December.) Each day in November, I’ll spotlight a different blog whose content ranges from reviews to author interviews and events to book tours. All the bloggers graciously agreed to answer 7 questions about themselves. YA features predominantly in some, and in others is merely part of what they cover. So stick around and get to know these great chicks and the blogs they pour their hearts into. I bet you’ll see some old favs and make some new ones.
Presenting: Erin and Regina from Mel, Erin & Regina Read-A-Lot (MEReadALOT)
1) Describe your blog and tell us why you chose that name for it?
ERIN: I started the blog with the hopes of having a place where I could have a place to rant/rave about the books I read daily. I also figured that being a part of the book blog community would be a good way to discover new authors and books to read as well. I asked my (then future) sister-in-law, Melanie, if she’d like to take part. We both read whatever we can get our hands on. From YA books to the likes of Fifty Shades of Grey.
We couldn’t really think of anything catchy..and then I just said Let’s name it Mel & Erin Read-A-Lot and call it mereadalot for short. She was like ‘Ok.’ and so that was that. About a month or so later, I asked a facebook friend of mine (and fellow Roswell Fan) if she would like to be a part of the blog. I had noticed over the last couple of years or so that she read some of the same stuff I did (The LUX series, especially, being that we were ROSWELL FANS after all!) Seeing as we referred to the blog as mereadalot, I told Regina we could work her name in the blog name. The R in Read could stand for both that and REGINA..so now it’s Mel, Erin & Regina Read-A-Lot or MEReadALOT.
Unfortunately, Melanie never really got comfortable blogging about books. So she hasn’t been a part of the blog as much as we thought she would be.. She’s around and she still talks about writing reviews..but she never does. I think she just likes having discussions with me face-to-face about books rather than blogging about it. Oh well. We tend to read a lot of the same stuff, so I guess in the end I’m blogging for the both of us! 😉
2) What are 3 things about you that would surprise people?
1. I havent’ been a “Young Adult” in a while, but I do still love to read YA books.
2. I have made a fan site for almost anything I’ve ever fangirled hardcore over. It started when I was 14 with my favorite bands..and I’ve moved on to books & movies and even a tv show or two. I just like being a part of fandom and I really like being an important part of a fandom. 😉
3. I own 3 cardboard cut outs of Edward Cullen. Do you want pictures? I even have video. He’s very entertaining to have around.
I also have one of Damon Salvatore that I adopted after UtopYA from Chelsea M. Cameron. 🙂
- I make strange faces at myself in the mirror several times a day. I can’t help myself.
- I’ve been ready for Elena Gilbert to DIE on the The Vampire Diaries for two years.
- I make my hubs sing The Aladdin duet with me at least twice a month.
3) Why do you love YA? And conversely is there anything that drives you nuts about it?
ERIN: I love to read YA because sometimes I want to connect with my inner-teenager and remember what I loved or hated about my teen years.
To be honest, I can’t really think of anything that drives me nuts about YA books.. well maybe I might want a more detailed love scene..but I can always go read an NA book when I’m in the mood for something a little spicier. Ha.
REGINA: I flippin’ LOVE YA because it lets me live those magical teen-age years over and over again that I feel like I missed out on BECAUSE I ALWAYS HAD MY NOSE IN A BOOK.
The only thing that sometimes drives me nuts about YA books is when a certain word seems to be doing the rounds. Like, for instance, the word “purchase”. As in “My hands struggled to make purchase with the side of the cliff wall”, or something like that. I have read so many books in the past year that used that word when I had never seen those same writers use that word before in their previous works. Not saying authors can’t grow and add new words to their vocab, I just get turned off when a word seems ‘’trendy’’. Does any of what I just wrote make sense?!
4) What book would you fight a zombie horde to save?
ERIN: Probably my VC Andrews collection… or my Jennifer Armentrout collection. Or I’ll just grab my iPad, it has all the books! 😉
REGINA: TWILIGHT. Yes. I said TWILIGHT. Not even kidding.
5) If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?
ERIN: My theme song changes.. Hmm I don’t have one for this week..but last week I was in NYC so I’ll go with a song that was totally part of my nyc soundtrack last week.
“New York City Speed” by Kill Hannah
REGINA: Oh, hell. This one’s hard. Hmmm….Probably the theme music from Jaws. It’s good for jumping out and scaring people to, and God knows I love doing that.
6) What fictional character would you want to date and who would you want for a best friend?
ERIN: I have a very long list of Book Boyfriends. I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one. So can I go on at least one date with all the hot book boyfriends? 🙂
As for a character I would like to have as a best friend..I would have to go with all of the Rock Chicks from the Rock Series by Kristen Ashley. They’re all amazing characters and they seem like they’d be the best friends ever and they come with a drag queen with an endless supply of designer shoes & clothing that she likes to share with friends! 🙂
REGINA: Okay, okay. This is a tough one. Hmmm…..Let me see… Okay. I would definitely want to date Victoria Scott’s Dante Walker for the Fall and Winter months. I mean, can’t you just imagine snuggle time with Dante by the fire?! Snap, Crackle, and POW!
The Spring and Summer months seem to drag on forever here in Texas, so I would need three guys for that part of the year. The first guy would be Edward from Twilight (duh). He can keep me cool while lookin’ HOT. The second one would be Jack Langley from C.J. Archers Freak House series. This might seem counter-intuitive because Jack has fire running through his veins, but I can stand the heat. And the third book boyfriend I would want for Summer would beeee……Bishop Lattimer from Amy Engel’s The Book of Ivy. The boy knows how to make the most of the outdoors, and I would totally be up for him making the most of me outdoors, too, you know what I’m sayin? *wink, wink*
Best friend? Pssshhh. NONE. It’s romance or NOTHING!
7) What has been the biggest surprise/delight of your blogging career?
ERIN: We’ve only been blogging for about a year and a half, but so far I’ve loved finding new friends to talk books with. I also like connecting with authors and picking their brains about the books they write.
REGINA: The biggest delight of my blogging career has been making real connections with authors I admire and making wonderful friends while being part of the AWESOME blogging community. Second biggest delight I would have to say is having blurbs from my reviews being featured on the back/inside of books. This impresses my hubs immensely.
