Welcome to Book Blog Love November! All this month, I’m featuring book blogs that I love and the fabulous female(s) behind them. (Curl Up with a Good Book Sunday and my regular posts resume in December.) Each day in November, I’ll spotlight a different blog whose content ranges from reviews to author interviews and events to book tours. All the bloggers graciously agreed to answer 7 questions about themselves. YA features predominantly in some, and in others is merely part of what they cover. So stick around and get to know these great chicks and the blogs they pour their hearts into. I bet you’ll see some old favs and make some new ones.
Presenting: Jessica and Lovin’ Los Libros
1) Describe your blog and tell us why you chose that name for it?
I started Lovin’ Los Libros over a year ago when I had started reading so much that I just wanted a way of remembering all the great books I’d come across. I am a Spanish teacher so I thought it was fitting to put part of my blog name in Spanish.
2) What are 3 things about you that would surprise people?
- I used to do theater in high school and for the longest time I wanted to pursue a career in acting.
- I LOVE to sing.
- I used to be a hardcore gamer. I love RPGs- especially the Final Fantasy series and I still play World of Warcraft online.
3) Why do you love YA? And conversely is there anything that drives you nuts about it?
I know everyone says college is the best time of one’s life, but for me it was high school. I think I love YA so much because it reminds me of a time where I had so much going for me and life was just simpler back then. Those butterflies in your stomach over a first crush? Having your best friends with you all the time? I love reading about those things. Because I also read NA, sometimes I want my YA books to be a bit more mature in content (I’m not talking explicit by any means, but I don’t like when YA shies away from sex, especially when it would be a natural step for the characters to take), so I sometimes get frustrated when they don’t go to that next level and have to remind myself these books are geared towards a younger audience.
4) What book would you fight a zombie horde to save?
Oh wow. Just one?! Let’s face it…. If a zombie horde was coming, I would have ALL my books, electronic reading devices, etc. packed away somewhere safe where no zombie could find it. But if I had to pick just one to carry with me, I’d have to say Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent. I love that book so much! TOD!
5) If you had a theme song, what would it be and why?
Being such a huge music guru, you would think this wouldn’t be a very difficult question for me. Instead it was nearly impossible. I guess at this point in my life it would be ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift. Life can be overwhelming and teaching high schoolers day in and day out can be extremely frustrating, so I’m trying to shake things off that I can’t control.
6) What fictional character would you want to date and who would you want for a best friend?
This might be one of the hardest questions I’ve ever had to answer! I would want to date Ryan Stone from Katie McGarry’s Dare You To. I have such a thing for baseball players and I love how sweet of a guy he is. As for a best friend, I’d have to say Roar from Under the Never Sky. He’s a great friend to both Perry and Aria and I like my friends with an easygoing attitude and sense of humor!
7) What has been the biggest surprise/delight of your blogging career?
Meeting so many amazing authors and bloggers. This community is one that means a lot to me and I am so fortunate to have made the connections I have. I started my blog as a means of remembering the books I’ve read and I can’t believe how much more it ended up becoming!
